First day in Cape Town

So where do start? Maybe I should start with my farewell/birthday party last Saturday in London. It was awesome to see everyone and thanks to everyone who made it, it was a special night and made even more special by the fact I won´t be seeing most of you for a year but that doesn’t mean I won´t be thinking about you and maybe even missing you all a little as well :-)

It was a very hectic couple of weeks leading up to our departure mainly because my house needed so much attention before it could be rented out. Now you might ask why didn´t you start earlier since you knew when you would be leaving, but trust me I did, you can back me up here Tommy/Andy. Maybe I was a little naive in thinking I didn´t need as much time as I actually did but when a boiler decides to give up the ghost you know you are in a world of pain. Luckily there isn´t much money can´t fix so after a lot of stressing and 3000 pounds later I managed to get it replaced. But enough of that, the reason you are all reading this is because you want to experience our travels with us so let’s talk about that.

We arrived late afternoon pretty tired but very excited as this was the start of everything we had been planning for the last 6 months. Luckily our friend Tina was at the airport to pick us up and take us to our Hostel. She has just completed an amazing adventure of her own. She and her boyfriend Anton drove from London to Cape Town and luckily for us arrived here a couple of weeks ago.  Apparently it is meant to take 15 minutes to get through the city from the airport but because we arrived the night Bon Jovi is in town and our hostel is not far from the stadium most of the roads were closed and it was nearly impossible to get through. But after about 2 hours of persisting and driving in circles we made it. So an extra big shout out to Tina for getting us to our hostel and for feeding us after we dropped the bags off.

Today we were typical tourists and jumped on the city tour bus which drove us to all the important sites. We figured it would be a good way to get introduced to Cape Town and since we are here for two weeks we can always go back to the places we would really like to explore. We haven´t got any concrete plans of what we would like to do yet but I think a little walk up table mountain and a visit to the surrounding  regions will be a must. It´s a beautiful city with some great museums, interesting sites and amazing beaches so I think we will be checking all that out as well.Lots more and lots of pics to follow as we continue our love affair with Africa.

  1. Today Justin Bieber is on at the stadium. That means more road blocks and traffic confusions. Luckily it doesn't affect us today... But the screaming... the screaming is in the air during the whole day! JB-shirts and caps everywhere, girls and mums filling up all cafes and restaurants around the stadium. Testosterone seems to have escaped from this suburb ;-)
